Canon Rebel XS lenses and help?

I am wanting to dibble and dabble more seriously with photography.. I would love love love to buy the Canon 50D.. but that is a little ridiculous for someone who is just starting out, so I have settled to buy the Canon Rebel... however I would like to get a couple things straight before I do...
1. Do ALL Canon lenses fit the Rebel or is there are certain size I should be looking for like "58 mm"
2. Which lenses or what types of lenses would be the best place to start? I have seen the fish eye lens, however I don'tt want to get a lens that reallyisn'tt beginner friendly
and finally
3. Filters, are those universal as well... I THINK I want to get a green lens... since from what I understand they are good for portraits, and I take alot of pictures of my light skin toned daughter...

Any help is AWESOME help :)

1. Yes, all lenses, as long as they feature autofocus, should be able to mount onto any Canon Rebel series camera. The "58mm" you mentioned is the filter size or the diameter of the front of the lens. If you plan to buy filters for your camera, you must find out the filter size first to ensure the filter will fit.

2. The most beginner friendly lens is the provided kit lens. It is a great lens to learn the fundamentals of photography. After you get the hang of everything, you can ask yourself what kind of photography you want to do more of; if you enjoy wildlife and sports photography, get a telephoto lens; if you want to do architecture and landscape, get a wide-angle lens; if you want to shoot close-ups, get a macro lens, and so on.

3. Filters are not "universal". They come in many different sizes to fit different lenses; 52mm, 58mm, 67mm, 77mm, etc. To ensure your filter will fit, please determine your lens' filter size first. The "green lens" you mentioned is used for black-and-white photography. Essentially, using a green filter in front of the lens will make the green areas in your black-and-white photo darker, while making orange and red tones lighter. To be honest, this isn't terribly needed as you can choose to add filter effects later on your computer.
