Star Filter Canon

Question about 'Star' lens filters?
I'm considering buying a star filter. I don't need anything super fancy, but I need good image quality for graphic design purposes, so I don't want a piece of crap either. What would you suggest for the 'star'? 4 point, 6 point, 8 point? What have you guys tried? I'm also a bit new at photography. So tips & tricks are welcome. (although I will be taking a class later)
I have a digital camera, a Canon SX10 IS if that makes any difference. (Technically a point-and-shoot, but it is probably as close to a SLR as you can get without actually being one. Has full manual setting options)
Thank you so much for answering! ^_^
I suppose I forgot to mention that I bought an adapter ring, so I can put filters on my camera. Thanks for doing the extra research though!
I like the 8 point. I've used it at night quite a bit and it can be overwhelming when it comes to cityscapes and such with a little longer exposures. You want to have a scene with kind of minimal lighting so its not just dominating the whole picture. I actually use it most when I'm doing more creative type shots. I set the camera on a tripod and manipulate the "star" it creates on the side of a goblet or something shiny with a flashlight. It takes a little experimenting.
2filter.com is where I've bought nearly all my filters. Good Luck!
