i have a Kodak easyshare dx7630, i want to order a telephoto lens for it. how well does it work?

Not well.
The Kodak Easyshare line is not a DSLR or even close to it. Quality might be okay, but if you're looking to zoom out with a camera like that, resolution might be compromised and distortion is very likely.
Get a nice DSLR to start out with. The cheaper the better if you plan on taking lots of long-distance shots.
