Good telephoto lenses for cheap.?
I'm a 14 year old interested in photography, but the thing is, at age 14 money is hard to come by.
I want to get a good lens that has super-telephoto capabilities, but those are insane with price, I was thinking about a tele-converter to go with a (about) 300mm lens, but I saw that that would take down the light amount.
Can someone give some good advice?
Good, telephoto, and cheap are not easy to do. Not impossible for good quality, but not easy.
You are not going to get a constant aperture lens for less than $600 or so, depending on which brand of camera you are using. You may as well resign yourself to the fact that you are going to end up with a variable aperture lens for now. It isn't as bad as it sounds, and you can still take perfectly good pictures with such a lens. You just have to work harder at it to do so. The good part is, once you have the money for a constant aperture lens, you'll be much better at using it.
The best "not expensive" lens you are going to find is the Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 APO DG, which is made for all the different mounts. It runs approximately $200. You will see it for a little more, and sometimes a little less. Make sure it is the APO version.
There are other lenses that cost less, and will still work, but quality starts going down rapidly at lower price points. That includes the "name brand" lenses from Nikon and Canon, although both make a better version as well. Of course that better version is about $350 for Nikon (70-300 f/4-5.6 ED) and Canon at closer to $600 for the 75-300 f/4-5.6 IS or the 70-200 F/4 L.
