Very Embarrassed.....?
Mature advice that is.
After an accident 3 years ago the dentist last year was unable to repair my teeth and stop them from decaying from a growing infection and said there was no other option than to remove all my top teeth and replace them with a fake plate. My bottom ones aren't in great shape but i'm trying to get work done slowly.
I'm a very clean, well to do person but that one incident has ruined my dental.
On the 2nd January i have to have my gallbladder removed. I called (unwillingly) just now and enquired about my top plate and they said it has to be removed in the O.R for my breathing tube and aneasthetic and i can put them back in when i get into my room for recovery. I'm teary and insanely embarrassed and can't stop shaking. The surgery i'm fine with, it's just removing my teeth and i'm only 25.
Has anyone been through this - is there any way i can get away with not taking them out. I've never had them out more than 5 minutes i hate the feeling of it......
As with most of the other people here, I can tell you that the medical staff taking care of you will not make you feel bad for having a top plate. As a nurse, it is my job to care for many different patients, and with many different issues/problems/social histories/diagnoses. I have taken care of people with no limbs, loss of bladder/bowel control, mental healths issues, etc.
I have also had the "opportunity" to be a patient and undergo a few surgeries myself. The people that have taken care of me, and the ones that take care of you will be professional and caring individuals. Your surgeon wants you to heal well, the OR nurses want to make sure the operation goes well and no sterile procedures are broken, the anesthesia doc wants to make sure you are safe, breathing, and pain free for the whole procedure.
In recovery, the nurses will be taking care of you to make sure you are safe and healthy, pain free, and taken care of. It is our job. We, as nurses, docs, and health care providers have your best interests at heart, and even though you might feel embarrased or self concious, we dont even bat an eye. We want you to heal and recover and go home safe and healthy...THATS the only thing we care about.
The only person who is bothered by your top plate, is you. We dont notice, and we wont make you feel bad about it at all. So, as difficult as it may be- relax, prepare yourself for surgery, and think about how much better you are going to feel with that cranky, blocked, painful gallbladder out of the way. Those things hurt when they act up and start making your life miserable. You are going to be just fine! Have the surgery, stay in the hospital for a day or two then go home and get better! Best of luck!
