is bower or vivitar flash good?
I'm gonna be the photographer in an upcoming sweet 16 party and im looking for a cheap but decent flash to use with my canon 400d. Im thinking to get a bower SFD926 or Vivitar fE-TTL speedlight flash. Anyone bought one of these items? can you please help me if any of these are good or bad? I dont wanna make a mistake especially for my first job as photographer. thanks a lot! =)
I don't know either of those flashes but I will offer you something to think about.
No matter how big your flash, you will always have some pictures that are out of range. So for one thing purchase as much flash power as you can afford.
Secondly, make sure that whatever flash you buy integrates with the camera you have. I use Nikon and I have Nikon flashes as well as a Sigma flash. These link intimately with the computer in my camera enabling me to do all kinds of settings from the camera. This too is very important. So make sure that the brand you settle for will link with the automation of your camera.
Thirdly, make sure that your flash output is adjustable. It's important sometimes to be able to reduce the power by a certain percentage. Made sure as well that the recycling speed with fresh batteries is very high, you don't want to have to wait for the flash between pictures.
Those are some critical things to take care of.
In terms of your choices, I used Canon for thirty years when I was doing film. Over that period I had three Vivitar flashes that worked perfectly with my gear and made me very happy. I also had a Braun one that was as good. So I can endorse the Vivitar. I can't speak to the bower.
When I went digital I went Nikon. I bought only Nikon flashes for those bodies but I also needed a ring flash which nikon didn't have. So I got a Sigma which works perfectly too. And I have a friend who also uses Nikon who owns a Metz flash. That works amazingly well too.
So you might want to look at Sigma and Metz as well.
