How important is image stabilization in a lens?
I want to buy a nice telephoto lens to take photos of birds and other wildlife and im leaning towards getting the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM Telephoto Zoom Lens. It doesn't have IS and there's one that does but its like another 1000$ and i can't afford that.. i could if i waited longer to save up money, but i dont want to wait haha.
That's a superb lens, but 200mm doesn't get you as far a reach as you might think, particularly if you are talking about birding.
The 70-200 has other advantages, like you can use it for portraits. If you want wildlife and birds, though, consider something like a 300 F4 or 400 F5.6. You can also consider the 100-400 - while pretty sharp it is not the 70-200 or a prime lens.
