Wide Angle Fish

fish eye vs. wide angle?
what is the difference between the two lenses? What effects to they each do?
examples of the two contrasting would be most helpful.
i'm slightly confused on the matter...
Wide angle lenses cover up to 115 degrees of view and are corrected so they can produce straight vertical and horizontal lines of a building if the cameras focal plane is parallel to the building itself.
A fisheye lens is designed to photograph the insides of pipelines or the day (clouds) and night sky (stars), so they cover a circular 180 degree field of few.
There is a huge distortion caused when using a fisheye lens, so except for shooting scientific and industrial shots, is it more of an effects tool than a lens a photographer would keep in their bag.
In the 10 years I have been shooting digital images, I have used a fisheye two times. Once for five shots the art director thought they wanted for the cover of a CD (they went with a nice wide angle shot instead) and recently for a construction company who wanted a birds eye view of their building under construction down town. This assignment was shot over two years ago and that shot has not been published to date
Owning a $1,000 fisheye lens makes NO economic sense, that is why I rent them
A wide angle lens on the other hand is something I use almost daily. I shoot landscapes, NHRA drags, architectural and forced perspective shots with it all the time. Spending $1,200 to $2,000 for a good ultra wide angle zoom lens does make sense. It can make me money on a continuing basis.
