Confused about digital camera purchasing- I need help?

I've scrolled websites, compared, contrasted and just when I thought I'd found a camera I realised that it didn't have a wide-angle lens and it had really mixed reviews- which are somewhat confusing, especially as every opinion is different.

I want a camera for amateur photography, I enjoy landscape photography, although I may photo close up nature (flowers, insects etc. etc.)

If it helps I was looking at the Fujifilm Finepix S1500 because:
-I wanted 10+ MP & around 12X optical zoom
-It had an electronic VF
-Macro Focus 2cm
-Manual controls

I don't really want to spend over £300 (but I can push to £350). I'm relatively familiar with cameras but could do with some more experienced help to make a decision.

Basically you want a camera that does everything has great image quality and top reviews too. Whats important is the lens. Thats what your paying for. A quality lens outperforms any others no matter how many pixels FULLSTOP. If you remember this then your halfway there. Next is finding the best digital camera with the best lens fitted. Well if your doing landscape wide ange your going to struggle with cloe-up. No lens can cope perfectly with this. Were assuming your looking at 28mm on compact cams. On DSLR you can go wider much wider to say 14mm. Telephoto helps with close-up so the bigger the zoom the better the macro USUALLY. You will not find a camera that has such wide angles and telephoto features. So I'm afraid this is where the compromise comes in. Wideangle or telephoto? I'd say ignore the mixed reviews and focus only on the lens quality. The LX3 comes out top here. But short on telephoto at 3x. The fuji EXR is top quality lens too (If you don't want video). And they give you very rich colours. When you say manual controls you really mean controlling the aperture and the shutter speed to your liking. Even pros like me only use these two mostly. I hope your not too confused but you need to be aware that NO camera is truly perfect and even ones costing several thousands have shortcomings. But if you stick yo the one with great lens reviews you will be as close as you can get to buying the right one for you.
