Wireless Remote Shutter

Is a wired or wireless camera remote better?
I have a Canon XSi camera and I'd like a remote shutter release for it. The wired and wireless are almost the same price at the nearest camera store, but I've heard the wireless remote only work from in FRONT of the camera, and not from any other position. I've heard that it can be a little finicky even from a front angle. Is this true? Which should I get? Also, how far away does each work from?
Any info is helpful. I live in Canada, so no US site links please.
The reason I would lean towards wireless is that I don't have to stand near the camera and I'm not touching it in ANY way, thus no chance for camera shake because of me moving. Also, if I want to be in the shot, it's easier than setting up a timer and running into position.
Yes it is true that wireless remotes have their receptor in the front therefore only works from in front of camera and not at back or sides. The wired on the other hand allows you to use it from all directions which is very good. I would get the wired, they are both abouts the same but performs much better than wireless. totally up to personal preference and whether you want to use it from different directions.
